From operational data to shared situational awareness

Industrial companies rarely suffer from a lack of data. Production systems, historians, ERP, laboratory systems, maintenance systems and spreadsheets all contain valuable information.

The challenge is making that information available in a form that supports everyday operational decisions.

At Mikon, we increasingly build information screens and operational cockpits for this purpose. They can combine trusted data from multiple sources and present the information that matters to a particular team, production area or location.

The content can range from production performance, quality and energy consumption to maintenance activities, deviations, safety information and predictions.

The objective is not to create another dashboard that someone needs to remember to open. It is to make relevant operational information part of the working environment.

We apply the same principle internally at Mikon. Our own information screen provides a continuously updated overview of projects, team activity, support, utilisation and upcoming events.

The technology is relatively straightforward. The more important questions are: Which information matters? Who needs it? And what decisions should it help them make?

This is also an important foundation for Industrial AI. Before AI can provide useful predictions or decision support, operational data needs to be trusted, structured and presented in the right context.
